snowy days

It's so damp and snowy out there today, it just isn't very inspiring! I keep thinking of a workshop I participated in last night with a dear friend, and fantastic photographer, Carol Lundeen, on creativity... One of the things we tried was pretty crazy! We had to look at a painting upside down, and draw it, right side up, with our non-dominant hand (I'm right handed, so I used my left hand!). It's way harder than it sounds, well, to start off drawing with your 'wrong' hand is pretty tricky, but your brain really struggles to notice details and figure out where to put things and which way they should face, etc. A few people drew the picture upside down even though we were told to correct it! Our brains are quirky things! It's actually a great project for this, shall we say, less than banner day! I think I'm going to try it drawing one of my portraits, and see what happens!

Hey, Sarah, I'm so delighted to see that you were so inspired by an exercise that confuses your (and everyone's) brain so very much - on purpose. I love your idea of doing the exercise with one of your own portraits, and I'd love to hear what you find out during the process!
